Song of the Day

Song of the Day: Metric – Strange Weather

Music fans across Canada are eagerly awaiting Synthetica, the 5th release from Toronto’s Metric.

Since Metric essentially wrote their last record Fantasies “with their fans”, road-testing several songs before their release, it’s been anywhere between 2 to 3 years since we’ve heard something new from the band.

Yesterday the band released the track listing and album artwork. Lead singer Emily Haines stated “We wanted the artwork for Synthetica to be thought provoking and a little disorienting, an optical illusion which asks you to stop for a moment and consider what you are looking at”.

There is also a series of surveillance-like videos of the band in the studio with synth-driven previews of the songs entitled “Reflections” now posted on the bands website.

The album’s first single “Youth Without Youth” doesn’t drop until May 1st. So to tide us all over, radio program “The Alternative Side” have released a new cover by half of the band (Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw) of Tom Waits’ 1987 song “Strange Weather”.

1. “Artificial Nocturne”
2. “Youth Without Youth”
3. “Speed the Collapse”
4. “Breathing Underwater”
5. “Dreams So Real”
6. “Lost Kitten”
7. “The Void”
8. “Synthetica”
9. “Clone”
10. “The Wanderlust”
11. “Nothing But Time”
